What essentials are needed for the retreat?Comfortable clothing and supportive gym shoes...hiking boots are optional though suggested. The rugged outdoor gym shoes are useful too if you have a pair of those. Suggest strongly a pair of "slings or flipflops" for the beach. Suggest also a bathing suit...we may not use it but why not throw it in? Evenings will be cool so throw in the hoodies and a jacket for warmth. Reading material... Layered clothing and rain jacket (try to expect the expected and unexpected) Umbrella Soap and your incidentals; include soap to wash things by hand/laundering (towels will be provided) Sun screen and bug spray. Hat Water bottle and daypack-essential (I have these as well) Any first aid items you want (Medical care is available in Forks including hospital and ER.) Medication and Vitamins

Do you have any free time during the retreat?During each weeklong retreat you will have a day off after breakfast until after dinner (10-7pm) to do whatever you like. It is free time. You can go to town or somewhere beyond, sleep all day, hang out at the beach, whatever feels good. A longer organized hike is also planned for those interested on this day. We resume with after dinner and evening group time. This free day is usually on Wednesday or Thursday of the week. We have our morning ritual and evening ritual that day as usual.

Are there any requirements or pre-work to attend the retreat?Yes, all retreat attendees should be familiar with Integrated Family Systems (IFS) therapy prior to attendance. There is a very short, helpful book called Introduction to Internal Family Systems by Richard Schwartz that can provide this familiarity. It is available from the Center for Self Leadership website (CSL.org) or at the Center for Self Leadership office in Oak Park, IL. We also ask that all attendees fill out the pre-work form which can be downloaded from the Retreats Page.
